With the Baby Boomers becoming older and about to collect Social Security, will there be enough Social Security available for the younger generations or will it be gone?
The high demand for oil and natural gas, it's not getting any better and there will be much more demand in the future as more cars are being placed on the roads and higher population.
Pollution in our country as well as others is still high and causing "supposedly" greenhouse gases which is leading to global warming. How can we start to control pollution better here and get other countries to follow suit?
Those are three that I think of anyhow.

Personal savings at an all time low (reported last year)
Mortgage defaults (people loosing their houses) at an all time high both by percentage and the number of. (reported all over the news this week)
US Debt is at an all time high of $10.5 TRILLION and climbing. (common knowledge in the news everywhere)
US Foreign Trade Deficit at an all time high and for the first time in history a deficit in income investment...in other words more Americans made money investing overseas than investing in companies here. (reported this week in all news outlets)
These are just a few of the major financial troubles/warnings facing the USA and nobody is even talking about them.
I could go on and on about "the erosion of personal rights", "illegal governmental activities against its citizens", "health care", education designed to make people stupid...and the list goes on and on.
America is SCREWED!

The absolute lack of morality of the US government as evidenced by the 'water boarding' which isn't torture, yea right. which is going on is Guantanamo Bay, innocent English, Australian and many others have been released from there, the situation in Zimbabwe is getting lots of attention as being a good example of torture, so should this. torture is internationally prohibited under international law, the US govt should be called to account for this lack of morality and face charges, as should the individuals carrying out the torture, you are supposed to be a civilized nation..... wake up and smell the flesh burning under the cigarette, take your leaders to task on this one and demand justice, 9/11 was not under any circumstances justified and neither is this. that is your biggest challenge, PS i don't hate Americans only your government and security services for the horrendous acts they commit.

1. EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION
2. CULTURAL CLARITY and NATIONALISM
3. ECONOMIC AND PHYSICAL SECURITY
For too long we've been under some sort of duress, whether the Cold War nuclear threat or Vietnam or inflation/recession or Iraq or dotcom busts or 9/11 or you name it. We have not banded as one nation for A LONG TIME. Everyone wishes to be argumentative and individual and self-serving. Compassion and compromise for the betterment of the United States, as our home and land and country, is completely absent.
This is the major challenge. We need to educate our youth in the best way possible. WE HAVE TO be smarter than the rest of the world to stay ahead of the rest of the world. We need to bind to one another as Americans first, and stop casting stones at ourselves or our neighbors. America matters more than your personal opinion, because without America, we would have no freedom or protection of personal opinion. And with education and a combined nationalistic effort to improve the US, our economic and physical security would be PARAMOUNT.
Absorbing millions of more people, some of which can't function properly in the economy for lack of language skills, patriotism or economic contribution is simply disastrous for those already here and busting their tails to make America and their own lives a fantastic thing.
Physical security allows us to blow hot air (myself included) without fear of reprisal or bodily harm. That physical security is vastly more important than cozying up to the concerns and wishes of those who have no vested interest in America's welfare (namely spineless former allies or vehemently radical anti-US sentiment abroad).
America is important to Americans. Her security, prosperity and future are our responsiblity. Bashing her, weakening her and abandoning her serves NO ONE (not even our spineless former allies). She is needed, by everyone, from our mortal enemies who use oil revenue to tear us down, to our flaky friends who look to us for defense, to our chess partners on the Pacific Rim who enjoy vast wealth because we allow their currencies to be devalued and their products to wash cheaply onto our shores.
We do the world PLENTY of favors, daily. But we don't do ourselves too many.
Educate, be proud of America, secure our economy and borders. We'll be fine. Otherwise, all bets are off.
