Handshake- don't know
Smile and kiss- maybe has something to do with primate evolution. Smiling in other primates seems to be one way of diffusing a tense social interaction. The monkey that smiles first is showing submission. The kiss might be related to grooming behavior. Monkeys/apes groom one another to reinforce attachments the kiss seems almost to be a statement of equality mutual simultaneous grooming.

One theory on the origin of the handshake is from the age of swords, in which you would greet someone with your open sword hand to show that you did have a concealed weapon, and were greeting in a manner of peace.
Another theory, though less practical, is that of two Arabs meeting in a desert. They each reach for the others hand to kiss it in greeting. However, it is an insult to have your hand kissed by another individual, so both men try to withdraw from the lips of the other man. The end result of this meeting is the acceptance by both men that they wouldnt kiss the others hand, and thus they ended up only clasping the hand of the other, and the handshake was born.
The kiss and the smile? I couldnt say. The smile seems to be more of an instinctive expression than anything, as its one of the first things a baby does.

I believe the origin of the handshake is to show respect in meeting someone for the first time.
I believe the kiss is of course to show that you love someone in some way.
I believe that the smile is to show someone that you are happy to see them.

The handshake was a way to show someone you are meeting that you come unarmed. A smile is a inbred human reaction - see how babies smile when they recognize you. And a kiss just happens.

I would have thought that a handshake involves both physical contact, and showing the receiver that you are not carrying an offensive weapon. For the other two, you need an anthropologist.

I always thought the origin of the handshake was to show the other person that you are not greeting them as a foe, i.e. not carrying a weapon.

Two lovers eyed each other,
first, they smiled to each other's faces..
second, they met and shook hands...
last, they fell in love, and experienced the kiss of a lifetime...
