Unfortunately, it probably won't ever happen. I think the first thing we need to do is to stop bickering over things that have nothing to do with the issues. We need to focus on what's really important to both sides and find a common goal. Then, to achieve our goal, we need to find a plan that works using tactics from both sides. Second, I think we need to slow down the media and any bias opinions and search for the FACTS. Finally, we need to appreciate that we live in a country that allows us the freedom to disagree. We need to respect those who fought and still fight to keep it this way.

They find common ground in the Libertarian Wing of each party. The libertarian philosophy is about limiting the intrusion of government into people's personal lives. Now in both parties there are people, who believe in this for different issues, like abortion and gun control. What they need to understand that commonality of this philosophy is correct for all issues not just selective ones. If you want lower taxes than we cut services and people will depend less on the government as a solution.

Conservatives see persons as their very own components and sovereign, lending parts of their very own authority to valid government. Like my liberal mother and my conservative father who have been happily married for almost 40 years, it is a matter of respect.

Respect that people have different views and opinions and morals and ideals. Respect that most people genuinely want what is best for themselves, their families and our country - people just have different ideas on what will be the best.

If people treat each other with courtesy and respect, then it will be easier to disagree.

They are too far apart on their ideologies to reach a consensus. The only time they will be on common ground is if they are buried side by side.

Can't on fundamental issues. Conservatives are patriotic, believe in economic growth, downsizing of most government control, and the self efficiency of the citizen. Liberals believe that almost everything needs to be legislated and that most citizens are incompetent to take care of themselves and their families. I forget who said it and I am paraphrasing, but conservatives believe most people are self sufficient and people of faith, while most liberals believe they are God.

In reality, they cant. They are labled so because of what they believe, and most people are not easily swayed from what they believe. The closest thing is to just meet in the middle, but even then both sides arn't conpletely happy and want things to go more their way.
