Have you ever seen one of those tiny "boispheres" where the animal life is just as important as the food sources and water content? We live on a very ecologically diverse planet, each species important in it's own way. Wipe out one species, it affects the rest of the planet in ways that couldn't be foreknown. We are all products of what came before... energy is neither created nor destroyed, so we are made up of materials that existed at the beginning of time as we know it. Ewwwww, huh?

The whole premise of your question is quite ridiculous. How about you, what is your "use" to "our world"? Non-human animals are "useful" to their individual themselves in a similar way that you are "useful" to yourself, that is, you'd probably prefer to be here then not be here.

At a less individual level, every species is connected to a larger ecology, and is therefore "useful" to other species. For example, were there no worms, the dynamics of the soil would not function, no bees, then many plants cannot make fruit or reproduce, and so on. Most animal species are not quite so obviously fundamental to the larger systems of nature in a way that matters to humans, but in no case does a species have no relevance to any other species.

First, I have to admit that all living organisms kill for food. Perhaps, someday more and more human beings will be vegetarians. I don't know the specifics about how and why different species of animals are important but I do know that dogs do a great deal of service for us in our world, such as seeing eye dogs, guide dogs, companion dogs, dogs that are trained to help deaf people, while being undemanding and giving unconditional love.
Monkeys are trained to live with paraplegics and provide them with services needed to survive. Even, cats have been known to save people's lives by warning them of danger such as fire. I also recall a story not too long ago about a pig that saved it's owner's life by running to a roadway after the woman suffered a heart attack and threw itself in front of a car forcing it to stop and then led it to their home and saved her life.
I'm sure that research in this area would uncover a great deal more.

They the animals were created for us and not vice versa.
It is only in this evil century that we have started eliminating them on a grand scale through mass slaughter, sport, putting them in cages etc.
Animals are of service to mankind created for primary purpose to keep the earth in balance together with humanity.
Example reflect on the horse as you ride it blazing through the hills whereby you feel you and the wind are one.
An automobile can never give you the same feeling.
Conclusion there is no flaw in the Creator's design.

Animals are entertaining too! From Chimps in people suits, stupid pet tricks, bird watching, zoos, animal planet. Animals are a huge part of human culture. How many books, stories, movies, songs use animal metaphoires to make a point about human life. It's impossible to imagine a world without animals. They are gifts from God that enrich life on Earth....man chimps are funny...

Nothing is important to be honest with you.

if all animals died tomorrow, it would not make one tiny bit of difference to the universe. The sun will swallow the earth in about 2 billion years and the earth will be gone. Poof.

What does it REALLY matter if that happens then or now?

If it were just humans, it would just be boring! If we strictly used animals for food, it would make a lot of people upset. Animals serve a purpose, they make this world more interesting than any human could.

since humans are animals, are you talking plant food? or food for the earth itself? i don't think the earth really cares whether or not it's inhabited by animals. although the waste products (except humans') do keep the soil nice & fertile for the plants, and the animals do help much plant life (pollen fertilization, seed dispersal, etc)

Some animals provide companionship to people and that is pretty important. Also, they can be used as transportation.
