If you are trying to get rid of programs that automatically run when you start your computer you will need to open each one individually and go to the Options or Preferences section and find the choice that is something like Automatically Open at Start Up. It is usually a little check box and make sure it is unchecked. Once you go through and change the programs you want off restart your puter. Then the program will only run when you go in and click on the icon.

You're a bit vague here as to what you want to do...whether it's stopping running processes or startup programs...
If it's startup programs then in the "run" box type in msconfig and then click OK, then click the startup tab and uncheck what you don't want starting up with Windows at boot time....If you don't know what the program is, it's best just to leave it alone... :-)
As far as Running Processes, if you don't know what you're doing here leave it alone or you can really mess up your computer in a hurry!

It has nothing to do with the "Run" command.
If you open your "Task Manager" and click on the "processes" tab, you will see what's running. You can close the ones you want from there. If you don't want them to start up when you boot your computer, you can disable them in your "System Configuration Utility".

Even easier is download the free home version of SuperAntiSpyware from
http://www.superantispyware.com/
Install it then click on "what's running on my computer"...it will tell you all you need to know.

Hope that helps.

Start -> Run -> type cmd for command prompt.

When that comes up type msconfig

When that screen comes up you have full capabilities when it comes to controlling start-up programs and running programs.

start->run->msconfig to keep them from loading at boot. You can also disable some services (from the control panel), but I would make sure you don't need them before disabling it.
