Wet dreams happen all by themselves. Natures way of clearing your reproductive system. It happens in your sleep, all of a sudden you will wake up and you are ejaculating. Its like, WTF.
In masturbation you are taking an active part by stimulating your penis (stroking) until you ejaculate. You get to enjoy the whole thing in masturbation.

The only real difference is that wet dreams happen without actual touching yourself. Wet dreams happen while you sleep and masturbation requires actually manipulating yourself.
