I am going to Steamboat Springs. It seems most flights are routed into Denver, than a prop plane takes you to Hayden.

I am not willing to take a prop plane into Steamboat Springs, but it seems like they are the only planes that fly into Hayden (from what I see).

So....

1) Does anybody know a way to fly in and avoid a prop plane?

2) Does anybody know a good service for getting a ride from Denver to Steaboat Springs?

3) Or, how scary/foolish is it for someone like me with no ice/mountain driving experience to rent a car and DRIVE from Denver to Steamboat Springs by myself?

Hayden has jet service from Denver.

It's not a terrible drive. Main highways, mostly 4 lane. One big mountain pass (Berthoud), one medium one (Rabbit Ears). A 4wd with good tires and careful driving would be needed. It's done by many people. Of course, you could run into bad weather.

There are buses/limos.

And, I'm pretty sure, others.

There are jets out of Houston into Steamboat, I think on American Airlines if I remember correctly. You can also get a ride from Denver to Steamboat on Alpine Taxi, you can arrange this through Steamboat Central Reservations. The 4 hour drive from Denver to Steamboat across Rabbit Ears Pass can be brutal and the weather in the pass is highly unpredictable. Therefore it is not recommended that you try this if you are not confident about driving in snowy conditions.

Hundreds of people fly in there every day. If you are dead set against flying, call your hotel or condo. They will know about bus shuttle service to Steamboat. Or, I found one at the website below. You can make a reservation right on line. It is pretty far from Denver - 2 1/2 or 3 hours.

I wouldn't want to ride with you!!!!

There is bus service from Denver to Steamboat Springs. I believe you can connect through a TNM&O bus from denver to Glenwood Springs and then their local city/county system travels up to Aspen and Steamboat. There used to also be a private airport shuttle service twice a day.

90% of the time the roads are not covered in ice and snow. Actually they are dry and well maintained throughout Colorado. People have a misconception that Colorado is like one huge snowy, icy mess in the winters. ..Maybe thats a good thing though..then people would stop moving here.

1).Sorry,but puddle jumpers are about the only aircraft the major airlines are able to operate into SBS. 2).For van service from DEN to SBS try www.vailrides.com or www.alpinetaxi.com. 3).If you are a competent driver you can drive yourself - its not THAT bad of a drive although it takes about 3-4 hours. If you go during the day its quite beautiful.Good luck!

What do you think is wrong with a "prop plane"?
Turboprop aircraft are just as safe and reliable as any jet.

Or are you just "too good" to fly on one"
