I would recommend, especially at this age, that you just buy him books at the bookstore instead. I have had a variety of book clubs for my boys (ages 3 and 6), and have been disappointed with the quality of the binding and the titles. The first few books are by well known author/illustrators, but them sometimes become more obscure as the months go on. Also, this way you can pick out books YOU like. Since you are the one who will be reading these books aloud for the next five or so years, you need to like them, too.

Go to your local public library. Ask about Mommie and Me classes, toddler time, and storytime for kids and babies. You can hear the good books the librarian recommends. You can also check out oodles of books, and buy the ones you really like.

If you want to build an inexpensive collection of children's books for your family I would recommend the kid's section of bookcloseouts.com. Book Closeouts sells what are known as "remainders" which are simply books that have been returned by bookstores to publishers. I have a lot of experience with them and they are usually of excellent quality (much better than book club quality), and have very good pricing. You can research books on amazon if you would like better background material and then purchase from Book Closeouts.
