I know Wilt Chamberlain was the best for his time, because nobody els can possibly score 100 in a game exept for maybe Kobe. The question is if we were to bring all of them back when they were at their prime and let them play in todays league, who would be the best out of:

Shaquille O'neal
Wilt Chamberlain
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Bill Russell
Hakeem Olajuwon
Moses Malone
David Robinson

Rank them if you want.

#1 - Wilt - He was ahead of his time, but with those stats, even in today's game he'd have been a monster!
#2 - Hakeem - Great all-around player.
#3 - Bill Russell - Can't argue with all of those championships won with the Celtics.
#4 - Shaq - Made an immediate impact in the league, although due to his massive size his age caught up to him rather quickly.
#5 - Kareem - Incredible endurance lasting all of those years at an effective level and setting so many of the all-time records.
#6 - David Robinson - I would have ranked him higher possibly if he wasn't such a pushover. He was one of the best centers in the league, but he moved aside and gave the team to Duncan as soon as Tim joined the league.
#7 - Moses Malone - Held his own against some taller centers. Honestly it's a toss-up between Malone and Robinson for #6 and #7.

Bill Russell.

5 MVP's (includes 3 consecutive MVP's that are deadsmack in the middle of Wilt's scoring tear where he posted the NBA's 3 highest scoring averages.) and 11 NBA championship rings, two of which as player/coach. Kareem may have more MVP's(6) but he's no where close Russells championship rings.

Led the US 1956 Basketball team, composed of college amateurs to Olympic Gold with the HIGHEST average margin of victory (50.3 pts, in contrast the 1992 Dream team's average margin of victory stands only at 43 something).

Won back to back NCAA championships posting a 55 undefeated winning streak. Russell's San Francisco Dons have an average margin of victory of 15+ points. And this may come as a surprise to some, he's a scorer during his college days.

Amazing mental acumen and basketball IQ. Puts the team first before himself (unlike Wilt Chamberlain who went through 5 coaches in 7 years).

Second best rebounder of all time and without the doubt the best defensive center - or should i say the best defensive player - ever. Too bad blocks were not recorded during his time (w/c explains why Hakeem leads the block tally). Defensive Player of the Year awards were only given during his last season of play and yes he was the inaugural winner of the aformentioned award.

Russell's the best of the lot.
