whew, so many ways of measuring! i work at victoria's secret, and although it's easier to just go to the store and have someone measure you so you can try the bra's on there and make sure the size is accurate (measuring doesn't always come out true, even if you do it perfect, it depends on the style of the bra and the shape of your upper body), you can still try it at home.
-You just measure around yourself above your bust, you'll have to have someone do this for you because you will need to have your arms at your side to get an accurate measurement, this number is your band size.
-then measure underneath your breasts, at the ribcage. remember this number.
-last, measure around your bust. take the number from your ribcage, say 35, and the number from your bust, say 38. for each inch difference, you have a cup size. so in this case, the cup would be a "c".
-1 in is an "a"
2-"b"
3-"c"
4-"d"
5-"dd" and so on...
it's better to measure yourself with a bra on too, but not a sportsbra or push up if you can help it! hope this helps!!!

I have seen that there are different ways of measuring.......Some measure under your bust, around the middle of your bust and then around the top. Other's don't. It's very confusing!
They measured me at Macy's not to long ago, and told me that I wear a 36x. I told the lady that this doesn't sound right, I am usually a 32......of course it didn't fit........It was way too big!
To get a really good measurement I would find a lingerie store and have them measure me. That's what I did, because my cup size is just not available in the department stores.
Just don't let them pressure you into buying. I fell for that and later was not happy with the purchases, because the color, etc. was someting I would not have picked. There are a few great online companies with good advice.......Maybe you can get more info from them!
Hope this helps.

okay, so, you are going way to litteral here let me help.
you have your bust, and then right below, where the band is. (do this topless, completly, no bra.) you measure under your bust. okay. and write it down. then you add 2 if it is even, and 3 if it is odd. write that down.
then you measure around the fullest part of your breast. and write that down.
you then subrtact your band (+2 for even, +3 for odd) from the bust size.
bust - band = ?
and the difference, is how you come up with the cup.
1-2 inches= aa
2-3 inches =a
3-4 inches = b
4-5 inches = c
so on and so forth.
also, helpful hint. if you find a bra that you want, and they dont have it in your size, then you can go up a cup size, and down a band size. so, if you are... lets say 36a and they only have b's then you can get a 34b.

You measure from the end of the breast ( meaning from the side near the arm) to the nipple. 1 inch= A cup, 2 inch=B cup.....etc......

1. Measure rib cage.
2. Add rib cage + 5 inches. This is band size.
3. Measure fullest part of bust.
4. Cup size = Fullest part of bust - Band Size.
