I know for a fact that they have no immediate plans to extend their sales area to include America.
Yes, sales in the USA stopped in 1991 due to various reasons, among them safety standards and pollution controls.
But in the 16 years since then, they now meet and exceed all the safety standards, and crash test standards of Europe. They are cranking out the cars very fast to satisfy demand in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, South America (140 countries)
Peugeot has strengthened its collaborations with Citroen and Renault. Peugeot is involved in European racing events.
Why sell.. and create the added pressure of selling cars in the USA? Peugeot engines are designed to run on octane 95, 98 and the very popular Diesel. America does not have these HIGHER octane, cleaner burning fuels. Diesel is not cleaner burning, but it is more economical in Europe, and the engines are longer lasting than petrol! Good show, Peugeot.
True. Peugeot is not the longest lasting car you can buy in Europe. True, Peugeot has 16 models to chose from, petrol, diesel. PLUS trucks. But, They are doing quite well..
Renault moved a big share of manufacturing to Turkey. Not Peugeot.
Volkswagon closed a factory in Belgium. Peugeot has closed none recently.
Ford is selling off Jaguar and ???. Peugeot is not selling.
Personaly, I could only respect negative comments from a mechanic who really knows what he is talking about... at a time when American car manufatures had NO problems of their own.

No. Renault is more likely to due to its alliance with and shareholdings in Nissan. Opel is re-entering in the form of Saturn. The Opel marque was last used in the US in the early 1970s. The Cadillac Catera was a modified Opel imported from Germany. Ford is debating whether to re-import German Fords (previously sold under the Merkur marque in the U.S. and Canada from the mid to late 80s). Alfa Romeo is looking at a re-entry strategy, has been for years. Not Fiat. Nor is Citroen, Peugeot's sister brand. All these brands were sold in the U.S. at one time or another. MG has gone to the Chinese and is planning on returning to the U.S.
