so apparently the 'confession' of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was given 'without duress' (Abc News), however the CIA abmits he was subject to water boarding a torture in which the victim is hung upside down with water flowing over their head, to induce the feeling of drowning, now im not saying he's innocent but i'm also certainly not implying that a 'confession' obtained under such circumstances can be considered to be 'without duress'. take the situation in Zimbabwae where opposition leaders have been beaten, this is torture, however i would suggest that being subjected to a drowning sensation for several minutes is also torture and of a worse kind then being beaten. i would rather be beaten then made to feeling like i was drowning. Shame on the US in the quest for 'freedom and democracy' the US govt has lost all sense of right and wrong and lowered themselves to the level of tyranical rygemes such as the taliban, Rober Mugabe, and so on. Has the US govt no morals.

Common S and M B. you miss the point entirely I am not sayign 9/11 was good or justified, or anything like that but torturing people doesn't get real information. Imagine I grabbed you of the street, locked you up for 5 years with no human contact, defiled whatever it is you hold to be holy, then played you the soundtack to the sound of music 50,000 times whilst depriving you of sleep, whilst constantly interogating you for all this time and telling you you're worthless and a terrorist, before finally subjecting you to horrific torture, whilst all the time telling you it could all be over if you just signed this? would you like it? would you think it was fair? the point is not what he may or may not have done, the point is that measure such as these ARE WRONG in all circumstances, and will not give reliable information, people will confess to anything if you subject them to enough. many innocent men have been realeased after horrndus ordeals. it is very naive to trust the US gov onthis
