the nova check (the signature burberry check) on hats is probably most associated with chavs, along with name brand athletic apparel. I think the negative connotation has died down quite a bit and more people are returning to burberry, but it is still somewhat inadvisable to wear something completely in the burberry check that probably everyone can afford if they had enough money, as chavs might get a hold of those items, and they may therefore have that negative connotation. plus plastering brand names all over you is crass and makes you seem like a walking billboard (or really insecure about your wealth)

Well there is real burberry which cost quite a lot and if very good. But people who are described as chavs are always seen wearing what other people think is fake burberry ( which is an imatation of real burberry) but its very cheap.
