When is formula one on and what channel? Plus what are some of the highlight tracks to watch? Like for us nascar fans it is mostly on Sunday afternoons. And our highlight tracks are Bristol and Daytona.
I have seen F1 fans slam nascar in our forum many times and also I have seen nascar fans slam yours. I just love racing period and dont get exposed to the F1 world that much so I want to watch some races just to see. Plus what are the differences between F1 series and Indy series?

The primary difference between F1 and Indy (or NASCAR), besides all the different turns on the race courses, is the technology.

F1 does not have rules that artificially make the races closer. Instead, they outline parameters for each team to work within when they are building their cars and engines. As long as they are within those guidelines, they can build whatever they want.

This makes F1 a true showcase for engineering talent. Because of this, car manufacturers spend millions of dollars each season trying to build the best car. Honda, BMW, Toyota, Ferrari and Mercedes each spend around $400 million a year just on their F1 teams. They have teams of over 500 people to field just 2 cars.

Also, F1 is more of an international championship, with races around the world contested by people from many different countries, both as drivers and engineers.

While Monaco, Monza (Italy) and Spa (Belgium) are all considered famous race tracks, each grand prix has significant weight and importance. Countries only get one race each year (usually).

Points are hard to score and you will sometimes see lots of celebration by some of the smaller teams when they score just a few points.

The stakes seem to be much higher in F1 because of all the effort put into building and fielding a competitive team. I have seen drivers get out of broken F1 cars and begin crying because of the disappointment. Indy racing just doesn't seem that important in comparison.

Understanding the great expense and massive amounts of research these teams spend to field a car can help you appreciate F1 better. For example, most of the teams are running wind tunnel research 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They also have sophisticated testing rigs and software so they can do as much testing off the track as possible.

One of the challenges to F1 is to reign in these escalating costs. This year they have limited testing (they used to test between every race) and engine development.

The international nature of F1 makes it more competitive and more meaningful, on many different levels, than other race series.

the ultimate race for f1 lover will be monaco, because is a very glamorous race and it won't forget a single mistake, you blink in that track you end smashed in the wall, tha track has like 20 feet wide in some parts so is very hard to pass and it requires a fine handling. in a race a pilot make more than 4000 shifts, and now the transmition is not automatic but semi, and they have to make the shift while stearing and pumping the gas and looking for the miror to see the guy behind, its a vey complex track, another great track will be tonights australia grand prix, is fast and has great passing chances, then kuala lumpur, a very tecnical and fast track, then cataluña, witch is a great and exciting track, another must is canada wich is very demanding with breaks cuz is so fast, britain, italy and belgium are three speed munsters, and italy has the speed record in a circuit for a car race, 372 km/h something around 200 miles, and in a circuit. spa francorchamps (the belgium race) has he fastest turn in a crcuit.. a car can take that turn at more than 250 km/h s very great... and the difrerns is the track the f1 dont race ovals and the cars are far more advanced and light they actualy put wheights to match the rules cuz a car can be around 400 kl and it must be at least 600 so enjoy

Season Opener this Saturday night at 11pm EST on SPEED Cahnnel live from Austrailia. Tune in and think of it as a chess match with 10 or 15 million dollar cars. Granted, not lap for lap excitement like a restrictor plate NASCAR race, but when passes do happen (and they do, contrary to some comments), you'll appreciate it. Pick a driver to root for, and enjoy! Hopefully, you'll want to catch the next race when they ship out to a different country.

Good for you! As a fellow NASCAR fan, I'm interested in F1 whenever I can get a chance to watch it. F-1 is *usually* shown on Speed Channel (the same one that the Truck Series is on), but sometimes on CBS, too. I like the Monaco track, but they go to others.

the speed channel is the only channel i have seen f1 on....i love both nascar and f1 they are both two totally different machines....if you just love racing you should watch some world rally championship racing...(WRC) those guys are some skilled drivers...only downfall is that they race against the clock so their isn't two drivers dicing back and forth but its still cool.F1 is "road course" racing and indy is more oval tracks like nascar with a few road course races

Monaco is recognized as a great race, but it is somewhat in the middle of the season. Any race is good. The thing about Formula 1 is that every race track is unique so its worth watching every race. Its not a crash racing sport, its about going as fast as possible without getting too close to other drivers.
