Hi,

We have been trying for a baby for 4 months now. No luck yet, so I thought of having pre-pregnancy checkup. Just to know if everything is alright with me. When I called up for appointment, they told me you don't have to meet to doctor for that, just give your blood sample and we will test it.

What does usually get checked up in pre-pregnancy checkup?
I had pap last year and it was normal. I also had test for cholestrol etc. and I know the result. If they just test for chelestrol, dibetest then i don't have to do it again.

How can I get doctor's appointment? Is there anything else I can ask to test?

Thanks in advance

-Sally

when I first started getting the check ups they went through the whole cycle and drew blood to make sure everything was within normal ranges as they should be at that point in my cycle then they did vaginal ultrasounds to see if I had eggs and if I ovulated. they did this though a full cycle. then if you continue and don't get pregnant they will do a sperm count on your husband and later they will make you come in for a post-coital test (after sex) they will do an ultrasound and test the movement of the sperm, then if you continue they may do more intense tests and very painful, I forgot what it was called but you are in an operating room setup and they shoot dye into your cervix and it does hurt (major cramps) while the dye floats through your cervix it will spill out of the fallopian tubes if there are no blockage. they will check out your ovaries, But if you have only been trying most doctors will not do these tests until you have tried for a year or more, many doctors say not to even begin to worry before 6 months. to save yourself time and money you should try one of those ovulation kits and try it that way, Good luck

i have not went for my pre-pregnancy check-up but i did some research on pre-pregnancy check-ups. for a fact your doctor should meet with you because it shows that you are concerned and don't want to bring a child into the world under circumstances some parents do. he should be getting the information on how long you been trying, charting if any, menstrual history, medical history (including family history), sexual history, and lifestyle history. the blood tests they are going to test for are more in depth than just cholesterol and diabetes. some examples are RH factor, urine tests for urinary tract infection, HIV. I could go one but if your doctor don't want to give you an appointment maybe you need to find another doctor that is going to do his job.
