No, not that important. I use one now, but I didn't for years and never had a problem. Although, I do suggest wearing rubber-soled shoes and not working on carpet if possible.

YES it is, touching a PC metal casing will probably solve the case. That is if your PC is grounded (mostly not). In order not to worsen the scenario, hold the memory on its side, not on the components. Make sure your hand is dry. If it happen that you have an antistatic wristband, better connect it to your faucet tube because it is burried underground, which is a good grounding for sure. ESD will not destroy your components at once, but rather it will weaken the parts. After using it for sometime you may notice the difference.

It IS important. Most RAM is designed to be 'zapped' at a certain static voltage, but you can still do latent damage to it. It may seem OK now (runs memory test fine), but after a month or so, it might fail if it got zapped just right.
Do this:
Make sure the PC is plugged in (but not turned on).
Before you touch the RAM, touch the metal case of the PC for about 5 seconds.
As you are actually putting the RAM in the slot, maintain contact with the metal case of the PC.
you shouldn't have any problem with static as long as you discharge yourself to earth (through the metal case of the PC).

You can install your ram without a wristband...but make sure you FIRST touch a grounded metal part on the case of your computer to discharge and static electricity that you might have...and don't go dragging your feet around on carpet while installing the ram...LOL
Goes without say: Unplug your computer, then push the power button in to discharge capacitors, then do ram install after touching a metal part on the case.

Not for most Ram
Not Unless you have a tendency to Run around in Leather Shoes, Scuffing your feet and generating a Static charge :-)
If you have a built up charge, you can usually touch a metal item and let that out. Must be some other ways, so a Wristband is handy, but not necessary

Turn your pc off, open the case, plug the power cord in to ground the pc and touch the case, this will safely discharge any static electricity, then unplug the power wire......although you should use a wrist strap if you like to do your own mods.....
Just keep in mind, static electricity can put up to 10,000 volts into those tiny chips that are made to take 2.8 to 3.5 volts.....

Any portion of the inner body if plausible, even any metallic clips. the different position may be on the outdoors of the RF/Coax connector for the prompt, the position it connects to the adapter internally (oftentimes yet another compartment beside the single for the ram). making use of yet another computer plugged into the mains isn't maximum superb, as a computer isn't grounded to the mains.. To artwork an a computer, you oftentimes disconnect the charger, and eliminate the battery.... The static precaution is inner for the computer in undemanding words, no longer an earth floor issue....

For most installations, its not a major deal. Just dont go shuffling your feet around on the carpet to try to build up static electricity before doing the install.
And, if you are overly concerned about it, ground yourself right before you do the install....touch a door knob, the side of the computer...anything to get rid of the static shock.
The shock that you can generate is generally to small to do damage to the components in a modern computer.

No. Just make sure to ground yourself first by touching a part of the case before touching the RAM.

If you have a rubber mat (from your bath tub for example), stand on that, then touch something metal to discharge any static electricity and you will be fine.
(I do IT work, and install memory daily and have never used a band, mat, or anything and have never damaged any memory. Just avoid touching the metal contacts along the bottom of the memory and you should be fine)

NO you do not really need one. just make sure that you touch the metal frame of the computer before you touch the ram or the mother board.
