A piece of plastic wrapping from something on top of the refrigerator was closed into the freezer overnight, but it's been several hours since I pulled it out. Frozen items are still quite soft and freezer still icy.

If there is a build up of ice, then you're going to have to defrost it before the items will get solid once again.

If it's a frostfree freezer, take the food out look, remove the large 'y' shaped thing in the back. It probably unsnaps and is full of ice or frost. Use a hairdryer if it's a lot or some warm water if it's a little. Snap it back together and return the food. Check the evaporation tray under the fridge or under the crisper drawers and clean up any overflow from the melt.

you must of left the freezer open. Like someone said earlier you need to defrost it
