hi, I'm looking for a school within the csu system to go to and pretty much have it narrowed down to either one of 2: Humboldt or Chico. Humboldt has a LOT of the majors I'm considering(& some I didn't even know I liked), except for one. If I went there though, it would be twice as much a burden bcoz my big sis went there a couple years ago & failed miserably so my family would expect a LOT more from me.
With Chico, it'd be a LOT easier to get back home to Lancaster every other weekend, I really like what I've heard about the area, and I get a reeeaally good vibe about the place, but I don't know if I'd want to be so far from the beach(w/out a car) & in a place that doesn't have many of the things I'm interested in. please, if you can, HELP me with this!!!! No rude or pointless answers please, I am really wigged about this. Thanks SO much! (=

I'm going to give it to you straight, if you go to Humboldt you'll be going to a very small school. It will feel like you know everyone and everyone knows you. Heaven forbid you make a mistake because everyone will know about it (It can be like High School). I say unless you're studying a science, there is really no point in going there. Chico is bigger and if you're looking for a great education as well as to have a fun time in college, I hear they're #1.

Humboldt is secluded not only by it's geography, but also by it's diversity. There is a constant battle between the locals and the students. The 101 and 299 are extremely winding roads and on occasion due to storms or rockslides, closed. Which means you get trapped in Humboldt County, it can be a burden. With Chico all that road stuff is eliminated.

Not to be completely negative about Humboldt, it is a beautiful, small, quiet place to be in school. But college should be an experience and not chore.

I went to Lancaster High for a year and then moved to Long Beach. After I graduated I went to Humboldt State. I met some of my best friends there, but every now and then I regret going there.

Think long and hard about your decision, maybe you should go and visit both schools and see what kind of vibe you get. The choice is yours to make.

Good luck! And enjoy college :)

Do you like the Humbdolt area and school? It seems like you like it due to the majors offered (I'm not sure how much closer it is to the beach though) while you like Chico better as a school. Bottom line is I'd say go where you think where'll you be the happiest. If you haven't visited the schools already, do so as well and see what you think.
