I am just getting out of the army myself and I served in Iraq in 2004-2005. Well, let's see I guess I think we should box up all of those people who are telling all the hard working soldiers that what they are doing is wrong and send them to Iraq drop them off and see how long they can live. This is why, even If you are against the war and you thing it is the worst thing ever you should still support all the young men and women that put them selves in danger so they dont have to. What do you mean you ask. Well if people like me and many others didnt volunteer to fight for our country they would bring back the draft!!!! Wow you didnt think about that did you. then all the stupid people going to FUNERALS would get there chance to really be a part of the funeral by being the one in the GROUND DEAD!!!!! Anyway stop being losers and support the brave souls that do the dirty work so you dont have to.

I don't know of any cases of people protesting the war at military funerals, but if so that is certainly not an appropriate venue.

I think, though, you may be referring to Fred Phelps and his band of nutcases at Westboro Baptist Church. He has gained intense notoriety for protesting at military funerals, where he criticizes those who fight for a country that, according to Phelps, is doomed by God because of the toleration of homosexuality and "worship" of the flag. To give you an idea of his thinking (and I use that term loosely) here is a quote from Reverend Phelps: "Military funerals are pagan orgies of idolatrous blasphemy where they pray to the dunghill gods of Sodom and play taps to a fallen fool."

In response to Phelps's antics, a group of motorcycle riders, most of whom are veterans, have formed the Patriot Guard Riders. They interpose themselves, non-violently, between the protesters and the mourners. In addition, the father of one Marine killed in Iraq sued Phelps after his group showed up at the funeral. The lawsuit is still pending as of this writing.

i imagine there should be limits on the position you may protest a conflict. those adult men & lady are giving their lives for our united states, and those idiots are protesting the conflict at their funeral. The households of those courageous adult men & lady have adequate heartache and sorrow, they dont favor to be coping with some bible-humpers with too a lot time on their palms. like it or no longer, that's an American conflict we are scuffling with. Your reviews about the conflict are basically that, reviews. sure, we've freedom of speech, in spite of the undeniable fact that it will be constrained to places except funerals, have some damned respect.

As a veteran I think it's disgusting! Freedom of speech is one thing, but respect for our fallen soldiers is another. There are several venues for protesting the war. Funeral services is NOT one of them. These people should be jailed for 30 days and fined heavily. This upsets me to tears.

i agree it is very insensitive. i think they are just hoping that the people who have lost someone in the war are now against the war, and hoping they will join them in their protest.

they should back off when it comes to funerals though...its unfortunate.

It is a terrible thing to do, very disrespectful, regardless if someone is against the war or not....I question the type of people that would stoop that low..

All this achieves is to devastate the families. It is totally insensitive and those doing it should be ashamed. Nothing justifies intruding and belittling the families saying good bye to their loved ones.

I think it is disgusting and self-centered and those protesters have no regard for others' feelings, so why should we respect their views? It just makes them hated and does nothing to promote their view.

WOW! What a great way to generate hostility and resistance to advancing their cause. What genius thought that one up?

That sucks. But there are always zealots in every group. Can't they arrest them or something?
