i bought an air conditioner for my bed room less than a year ago and it worked fine for the first few months. but now if i leave it running for an hour or so a thick sheet of ice forms on the front coils right behind the filter. the filter is completely clean, no dust stuck on it or anything. the room is large and the air conditioner has enough btu's to cool the room. does anyone know what might be wrong with it and if it is fixable?

A freon leak is possible. I've seen that happen.

It's wintertime up here at the Lodge why are you running the A/C

Ok here is the freezing problem
Water is condensing on the coils and the cool air outside is cooling the refrigerant more making the coils real cold thus freezing the water on the coils.

Try this.
let the A/C stop for at least a day. then wipe the coils off real well.
Also make sure the drain is not plugged. if there is not an easy way for the water from the condenser to escape then that allows too much water in the A/C unit.

Hey OK shorter answer. Pull that puppy out and give it a good cleaning. Looking at the drain to make sue it is OK

Many factors c ould be involved........are you running it with the themostat turned completely down low? Makes it work all the time without cycling. Is the humidity high inside? Keep it clean..........
