A great place in the United States is the Pocono Mountains. The hot tubs can lead to all kinds of romance. Outside of the United States would be any of the islands.

You don't mention what areas your considering.
I'm going away with my new girlfriend to a small
b&b in the Adirondacks in upstate NY for 3 days
next week. It has the bonus of my getting to do a
little skiing plus the owner told me it has been
a slow winter and we'll literally have the entire
place to ourselves.

Anywhere you and your lover can sit talk listen and watch the world go by . It is not about where you go but who you are with and how you spend your time . Romance is a place in the heart and mind not a place on a map .

Specific or generic? What location?

Mackinac Island, in Michigan is VERY romantic.

The Coronado Hotel in San Diego.

Depending where you are, you probably have wonderful bed and breakfasts (or is it beds and breakfast?) right in close driving distance. Those are quaint and make for great getaways. Start here for your search:
