I'm considering trying my hand at a game-making program. what i am honestly looking for is kind of like the level editor for startcraft (the best campagn editor i've ever used in a game), or the one for unreal tornament (a type of Maya editor). something simple enough for a computer/art savy guy to pick up on quickley, but something that has great potential to make professional-ish games.
i've seen the 3D Gamestudio and it looks like the one... does anyone have any thoughts?

If you're using someone else's tools and engine, your game is going to look like theres. 3D gamestudio is kinda weak, but a decent starting point. Eventually you might want to start using tools like Torque (TorqueX is XNA compatible so you can write games for windows and Xbox360) and eventually working with real rendering engines to create something, but it's a lot of work.

Microsoft has an XNA studio that I think distributes for free.
