oh my god i thought i was the only 1, i do it all the time, if i dont salute a magpie i think something bad will happen to me or my family

I do this is a very old superstition :)
I always greet the magpies in the garden in the morning with exactly that phrase.

Yes a salute and Good Morning also and haste as it is I look for another one - although there is NO scientific proof in any superstitions you know.

Oh! no, not another one - my wife does the same blooming thing - it drives me batty - it's a bird for crying out loud - what is it going to do to you - I don't understand this fascination

I do and count them 1 for sorrow 2 for joy etc etc

Yes i do, i also have a family of them come to feed from my garden every day.
My dad used to say that and i guess it just carried on with me.
