i bought an air conditioner for my bed room less than a year ago and it worked fine for the first few months. but now if i leave it running for an hour or so a thick sheet of ice forms on the front coils right behind the filter. the filter is completely clean, no dust stuck on it or anything. the room is large and the air conditioner has enough btu's to cool the room. does anyone know what might be wrong with it and if it is fixable?

in the journey that your device has fuses it extremely is extremely old, and the fuse could have blown long before the receptacle melted. you have a fuse that's rated for extra amps than the circuit can take care of, as an occasion a 30 amp fuse on a fifteen amp circuit. you are able to examine the dimensions(gauge) of the cord with a device offered out of your ironmongery shop. A 14 guage cord for 15 amps and a 12 guage cord for 20 amps. you will locate out which circuit has the least load on it by pulling the fuses and seeing which electric devises turn off, them circulate the ac to the single with the least load.

It's low on freon. When they get low, they actually get colder. The problem is, when it gets colder than freezing, condensation freezes on the coil and you get a block of ice.
Keeping the fan on high might help.

You got your thermostat way up. Try reducing it to half or less.
