I went every summer from the time I was in 2nd grade, and I *loved* it. I've also worked at summer camps on staff and loved that too.
Whether or not your kids would enjoy camp just depends on their age, maturity and the type of camp to which you want to send them. There are lots of different types of camps, and it's wise to choose one which offers activities which closely match the interests of your child.
It's your decision whether or not to send your child to camp, but camp can be a wonderful and really exciting experience for him/her. It's good and healthy for them to get out and have to learn to interact with their peers and other adults in an environment that doesn't have mommy and/or daddy readily available. It encourages independence and self-reliance, which are important skills.

I dont have kids but I have been sent to a summer camp for a few years while I was in middle and high school. The camp was a week long and we slept in tents some years it rained all week and others it was hot. But I had a ton of fun, sure there were time when I wanted to come home but I think that it is good for children to experiance nature for at lease a week. The friends and memories will make a great impact of who they are and will become. And I think that you shouldnt worry as much. These places are really thought out and planed very well.

Some of my fondest memories from childhood were going to summer camps, such as 4H camp, church camp, band camp, and basketball camp. But it really depends on the individual child, age , interests , etc. I don't think it would be a good idea to send a child who doesn't wish to go , but if your child expresses the desire to go, it can be a terrific learning experience for them. My niece attended a church camp growing up, and now she is a camp counselor for the same camp, so it must have been a positive experience. It's a great way to have children socialize, and express their individualism, and independence in a controlled setting. Much better than going to the mall.

Why not start by sending them to a day camp? That way, you can interact with the counselors, get to know what kind of curriculem they hold, and you get to see your kids at the end of the day.
Some camps even allow for you to sign up on a weekly basis, so they can attend a week and if you and they like it, you can sign them up for a few more weeks.

There are summer camps and summer camps.
My 4 sons (and now their sons) they have all spend part of their holidays (15 days maximum) in summer camps. But, previously, I sought all kind of information regarding the solvency of the camp owners, monitors, professors,. etc.
Normally, good schools recommend good camps... And then my sons started to go when they were 8 or 9 years old.

There are some really good summer camps out there. Sure they are in the hands of 18-25 year olds for the most part, they have good supervisors/supervision. I went to a couple and had a great time (seagull, in NC; Oddyssey Expedeitions in the Carribian) do your research and be sure to talk to someone who will set you at ease. Its a good learning experience.

I sent my 13 year old daughter off to Hockey camp last year, I was scared stiff but it turned out to be a great experiance, she met all kinds of kids from everywhere and we were running into them all season long, it was kind of cool when she would see someone from the other team and start talking with them.....I say it was great for her

I've been to alot of different camps. but its all about trust in your kid. most camps will let cellphones be used so that's not a prob. you do want to go with a good camp so do some background checks. and the key is if you are worried about it don't keep asking are you sure you want to go are you sure. it gets old quick and scares them.

i went to summer camp last year and it was fun. at certain camps they even let the kids choose who they share a cabin with so they can share it with their best friends.
