Mystery Pet

This pet can be a cat, dog, fish, bird, or any other type of companion animal. Here are the hints:

1. Although I have been known in Europe since the early 1900's, I was only introduced to the United States 40 years ago.
2. I am one of the more affectionate members of my species, and will bond easily to the person who cares for me.
3. Even though I have a long silky coat, I am considered to be a lazy man's pet, because I require little maintenance.

I hope you find out I am curious too... I will take a stab at it

I say its a Javanese. A breed of cat that has long silky hair, that doesnt readily matt up, and known as the lazy mans cat. Very respresentable to its breed, its said to be a mutation of the Balinese. Not common in the states if was first accepted to the Cat Fancy Association in 1986. Though it was bred and developed some time earlier than that. Well that was my stab at it

I believe that may be the hampster...as to the long silky coat...some are called fancy hampsters....

The more affectionate member of a specie is what tells me a hampster as it is a rodent and definitly more affectionate that a rat (although I have had some great rat pets). There is also another one it could be which is the bunny rabbit.
