Obviously, Bush squandered the good will we have had to work for all these years. Now, after a very stupid war that just makes us look like bullies on the world scene, we have to use a fresh face in the White House in 2009 to get the free world back on our side. What exactly would the best ideas be for a new president to accomplish this?

Don't act like he is a one man band!
They get power hungry and it goes to their head, like bush said I am the decider? Come on!
Be able to be humble and ask other leaders what is the best course to follow. Sit down with them and talk things out in a room rather than on the battle field. Don't feel like your the only leader of a country that can rule the world.
Be a member of a group like the congress and senators and ask and use their advice. When a problem comes up take it to a world court like the United Nations. Step back and say what do you think should be done.
The best leaders in a business are those who are willing to let others be a part of the decision making.
Don't hotdog it like your the only one out there and run head on into a country that the others tried to tell him was a mistake. His own father knew better than to take him on and try to tell another country how to run its self. Johnston was the same way it failed in Vietnam and it is failing in Iraq.
When France decided not to go a red flag should have went up and talk it over ; "why did you think that is a bad idea?"
Then listen. Don't discredit everyone who has an opinion different from your own, that is what they did.
the bible even says "There is knowledge in the multitude of counselors." In other words listen to others ideas.
Every country that gets a dictator or one who thinks he knows it all and is not willing to listen to others fails.
that was Bushes failure! Failure to listen to others?

Bush didn't start the trend of bad PR. It started with "I break into my enemies' campaign HQ" Nixon, continued through "national malaise" Carter, was thankfully redeemed by Reagan, coasted through Bush Sr., and then was shredded again by "I lie under oath" Clinton. It was in bad shape LOOOOONG before Bush II took over, so let's apportion blame where it belongs. People will be arguing about the Iraq war for decades, so there's a long time to come of these tirades.

What can the next Prez do? Be a person of integrity and strength. He can be proud of being American, because that's something a lot of people forgotten lately (and don't think other countries aren't gloating about that). He can reclaim American sovereignty from the court of world opinion. That'd be a real start toward regaining Americans' trust -- and the world's.

Amen, Toby K!!!

There are some bridges that have been severely damaged. Unrepairable? Unless this world repents of the sin which it has allowed in, there will be Gods' wrath. They have taken the commandments out of the schools and replaced it with condom machines. What does that say?

The next president... maybe wont be affiliated with the Illuminati or the masons that might help. There are many in congress in America who are long standing members of this elite society of what a new world order. An order to control and dominate the world as a whole. Look at what is happening new licenses... new registries, new money currency coming as in Europe. Yeah ... what is the next leader going to do... >> Well he could be HONEST in letting the world know as a whole all that is happening and what is to come.

I think we will have to start by electing a democrat, not because I think they hold the answers to all of the U.S.' problems, but because I think it will symbolize our dissatisfaction with the current administration, and a shift in policy to the rest of the world. Also, while I know it's unpopular, we need to put our money where our mouth is by stepping up foreign aid if we ever want to regain our good standing in the world. Americans complain about forein aid as being a financial drain on our system, but most people don't realize that it comprises only 2% of our annual spending, making us one of the stingiest developed nations in the world. This, coupled with a generally perceived attitude of arrogance, laziness and stupidity (at best--power-hungry, paranoid and trigger-happy at worst) has contributed to our unpopularity. Not to mention that we've implicated or alienated our allies in a war that should never have started and that we're not winning. Unfortunately, our next president is going to have to eat a LOT of crow on behalf of the United States, thanks to Bush, who I believe will go down in U.S. history as the WORST President. Beyond that, we're going to have to make special effort to go out into the world as positive forces and good ambassadors for our country. We can be proud and patriotic without being A$$holes.

I don't think that we will be able to regain that trust with the next president, not that I'm saying that the next president will be bad, just that we have sunk so low in the eyes of foreign countries, that we will be fighting this bad reputation for a long while.

who cares what the rest of the world thinks about the united states. A leader is a person who will lead people to the best of his/her ability and make decisions based on what is right for the people they are leading. This is what the problem is with our country right now. Everyone is so freaken worried about what others will think and what their approval rating will be, that they don't lead correctly or speak what they really want to stay. But it really doesn't matter what any other country thinks of the united states.

Cut off all foreign aid & mutual defense treaties. Then the lilly-livered heads of state would kiss our collective azz until they saw some good old greenbacks and GI's

To regain trust, the new president would have to stop helping all these other "no future no matter what you do" countries. I bet the whole world will be knocking our doors for help.
