Technically war is not good. Yet it can have positive effects. For example; before WW II, most of the world was in an economic slump. The war created jobs that had not been there before, and generated money into an almost non-existant economy. Another thing to look at; why go to war? If you have been attacked, you can't always turn the other cheek. Instead you have to swing back. It can also be used as a deterrent. If someone is trying to produce weapons of mass destruction, wouldn't it be better to take them out, before they use them? So war is not good, but sometimes, it is a necessity.

Because it keeps invaders from your doorstep.
Because it defends the right to self-government.
Because it promotes nationalism.
Because it stops vicious, cruel, hostile people from taking over not only your own but other countries, also ...(same as #1 actually).
And, (this is horrible) it boosts the economy because it gives employment to munitions, vehicles, clothing, etc, etc ...
Because there are some times that one must fight for what is right ..... and that is an exercise in strength and power, as opposed to weakness .... and we all need that, regardless of whether it refers to the individual, the family, or to society at large.....
{Personally I do not like war ..... however I have had to surrender to the fact that I do not know, and that my sentiments have not taken into consideration certain fact of life ... I once saw a photograph of a bombed out castle in Europe, with the caption underneath carrying a quote of an elderly French lady. She said, "There must be no more wars. They disturb too many people." Of course they do, and many years after that French lady said that they are still disturbing too many people, and that is the trouble.....but my guess is that if there were enough strength, enough prosperity, and enough solidarity, a country would not run into war in the first place. But, alas ....what do I know?}
I wish I had not answered this. It is making me feel ill. I just know that someday, all this hostility MUST be replaced by Love ....
Good luck with your homework .... I guess it is MY homework also!!!!

Personally I am not really in favor of war if it can be helped. There are times when a nation must defend itself, or fight for something if there is an oppressive force threatening to ruin that sociey...otherwise, my opinion is that wars usually get completely out of hand and go on for far too long, and get blurry and cluttered with side issues. But there are some good things that come of it sometimes.
I'm not going to give you specific answers, this is YOUR homework but I would research how war affects the economy.

War is never a GOOD thing. It is necessary sometimes to bring other nations into socially acceptable behavior. Quite a few people believe that the current war in the gulf is about oil, company profits, etc. This war is about nations and leaders that allowed the socially unacceptable behavior of terrorism to be conducted and funded from their countries. There are some people in this country that believe if we leave them alone to do what they want, then they will leave us alone. Unfortunately, they proved that idea wrong on 9/11. We turned the other cheek for decades on that behavior, and they just brought it to or homes, on live television.

It can be. Way too much to type on that subject, though.
There are a series of books for teenage type readers by Piers Anthony called the "Incarnations of Immortality". One is about War...the title of this specific book is "Wielding a Red Sword". Had a great justification for war that young people can understand. I am sure your homework is due before you would have a chance to read this book, but maybe some other time...

Overall war is good only for the profiteers. Halliburton and others are getting richer by the day. Maybe someone could argue it helps slow the population increase on earth.
Other than that war is not good. People lose their homes, their loved ones, their fortunes. War costs governments money for soldiers, war machines, war materials and ammunition. Beautiful landmarks and artifacts can be destroyed for ever.

War is not good.
It needs to be faught quickly as possible.
It is ugly and will never be pretty.
You can't avoid war by running away from the problem.
Look up Chamberlin and "We will have peace in our time."
War did get our independence from England.
It free the slaves.
It stop Hitler
Being against all war is easy but there are times where it has to be faught.
Like against the Muslims who want us dead.

It's not always good. Sometimes it's necessary. Take our American Revolution. Without it, we would not be a free society.
