I am 15 years old and I want to be in a few movies or episode series as an extra-curricular activity. Education is still my main priority and I'm really focused in school since I want to get into an ivy league college, but I also want to have something extra to do other thatn studying my butt off. I'm not tall so I can't go into modeling and I live in the DFW area. I tried audition websites but they don't really work. What do I do to become an actress despite my hectic schedule? I don't really want to join any talent agencies.

Start with your local theater groups or theater companies. Audition for a small show and work your way up. One of our local theater companies once had actors like David Hyde Pierce (Fraiser), TR Knight (Grey's Anatomy), and Rainn Wilson (The Office) doing small parts in shows before they made it big.

If you want to be an actress, you need to realize it's not something you can chase "part time". There are people committed to it, with more training and more experience than you pursuing it full time. There are more actors than their are acting jobs. Even community theater, you'll be up against a hundred or more actors just for a small part.
I too am in the DFW area. Forget about talent agencies and websites, you need to get involved in the scene to learn where the auditions are being held. I work 40 hours a week, but still find time to pursue theater gig's. The good thing about community theater and independent film, is that many of those gigs don't necessarily require you to be there during the day, although some do.

Well, this is one of the main problems with a lot of younger people who want to get into show business. You have to understand it is not something you can just do for fun on the side and be able to drop in when you feel like and have the camera rolling. It is a highly competitve business that you have to work at.

If you were to get into a series or movies the shoot can take a very long time. It's not going to be after school for a few hours a few times a week.

In order to get into movies you will really need an agent and you will endure countless auditions. These auditions may come at the last minute and you will need to be able to go when called. No agent would accept anyone who wants to act "extra-curricularly." The roles themselves may be part-time but GETTING them is not an after school job.

You really can not be a professional actor (ie. getting into movies and tv) if you only can do it on the side. To be honest I was little appauled by your question - believing it is so simple. No one is going to wait for you and allow you to come around when you can for filming.

If you are really interested in acting and don't have too much time I would suggest you get involved with a local play. Remember acting can be a hobby/extra-curricular, just not professionally in movies and such. You need to realize that being on tv is not like going out for soccer practice.

If you are really keen on persuing this, you may need to be a little more flexible in your schedule.

Best of luck.

Acting is not something that you do on the side it is a full time job. Especially if you want to be in movies and television episodes. If you have a busy schedule acting is definitely not the thing for you. If you want to act you want to be ready to commit, and have representation or an agent. You are going to have to make some sacrifices if you really want to do it. Part time acting would probably be community theater.

Some talent agencies are a scam, and audtion websites aren't the best. The best thing I would suggest to do is probably talk to film majors at a near-by college. Hope you become a part-time actress! :)

Even if you only want to do that part time, it may be extremely hard because there are thousand's that are looking for the same thing as you but want it as a living (full-time).

Acting takes a lot of commitment.
