I just purchased a laptop and would like to get internet service. I don't have a home phone (just seems useless with 2 cell phones in the house) and wireless service through sprint or verizon is quite expensive. So is there an inexpensive option for internet service on a laptop? (I am not worried about being able to connect anywhere and everywhere as long as I can get on at home) TIA

As far as I know, you really only have 3 options...dsl, cable and satellite. But satellite is rather expensive and so cable would be your next bet. Or you can try and get a cheap phone service and get dsl. yahoo dsl is $19.99 right now and you can get a universal phone line...or something similar for about 5 to 10 bucks a month. I have a wireless network set up that used to go through my desktop which recently just went out. But everything is running fine.

Well can't get DSL at your home without phone service. Check with your cable TV provider, or look into satellite Internet. One of the Internet providers in your area may also provide wireless connection to your residence. If you have a bluetooth cell phone and a bluetooth network adapt or on your laptop, you can get data service for your cell phone and your laptop will connect wirelessly to your phone through the bluetooth connection. If you have data service it will run off your data connection and not your talk time minutes. Nothing you will look into will be "cheap". You should expect to spend $50 a month on average, depending on which way you go. Your cable company will probably be the least expensive, if they provide service to your home.

It all depends on where you live. You can get service from a cable company for one. Another option is either wifi or microcell transmissions if either is offered in your area. There is also cell phone service but it is very expensive.
