Working in the child care industry is very much in demand.
However, I would look into the amount of pay you would earn in your area. In St. Louis MO a person with a high school deploma you make between 6 and 7 an hour with an asso. degree in childcare only earns $10 an hour bach. $12 an hour. Usually child care does not have good benefits.
Teachers for school ages make different I do not know about them
HOWEVER, owning your own childcare facility would possibly be a good investment and rewarding job. You need a bach degree in child develpment and some business skills.
I did pay $200 week for two kids ages 6 and 9 to go to daycare last summer.

I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and have been working with kids for almost 20 years. I love it. BUT...be prepared to live on a budget. It does not pay much!! I started 20 years ago in a daycare center, earning about $7 an hour as a lead teacher. After 2 years I decided I wanted to earn more money. Plus, I was expecting my first child. I started a home day care out of my home. I love it! I am licensed for 8 children. I live in an upper-middle class area and charge $200 a week. I make about $20 to $40 an hour, depending how many kids are here at the time. My "overhead" consists of paying for food, art supplies, cleaning supplies, new toys, books, papers, etc. After my bills, I still have "enough" to live comfortably. BUT - it is ALOT of work...I am open 6am to 6pm five days a week, the only break is naptime. And lots of "poopy diapers" every day ( I think in 20 years I have changed over a million diapers!!). But, to someone who enjoys kids, it is an AWESOME way to make a living!!!! Play all day for pay!! If you are interested in doing something like this, you should look on Craig's list in your area and contact a childcare provider to see what the pay is in your area as well as licensing requirements, etc. Good Luck!

If you like making 6 dollars an hour then yes its a great job. Here is an idea, go to college get a teaching degree and teach kindergarten or be some type of director of a child care place. That way you can make a living wage and work with kids. Child care workers make very little money.

I think that would be a wonderful job but may I suggest that you get your certification in child care from your local state. I am a family support worker in KY and I always advise to my clients looking for jobs to look at what will be around and needed. With today society it seems both parents have to work, so when they have children there is a need for child care. Another suggestion would be apply at local schools and head start for a teachers aid job. Some of these you only work 9 months but can get pay checks over 12 months.

It could be. Consider getting a job in a day care center AND attending college to get your AA in something like Child Development. It will help open the door for promotion AND may interest you in further studies. You may find that you will want to go on and get a teaching degree...or one in child psychology, pediatrics, or other related fields. Children are wonderful. Good luck to you.

Only you can make that call. Who knows, you may find something else that interests you after high school. I went to college for journalism, switched that to music, then to business, then to agriculture, dropped out, got a degee in nursing from a different school, and now 3 years later, I'm back in school for engineering.
Life is funny!

It is a great job, but the pay isn't very good. Try to get you CDL or maybe your BA in Elementary Education. You can always be a private nanny, you will make more money this way.

Do it for awhile. Unfortunately, the pay isn't great for that kind of work, and doesn't improve much with experience. Maybe doing child care work will help lead you to other types of work that would provide more of a livable income.

If thats what you love, I say go for it. However, I would reccomend looking into college, maybe a degree in education. A college degree is not a bad thing to have.
