I had my first appointment when I was 6 weeks. Most doctors will want to see you for the first time, sometime between 6 and 8 weeks.

My doctor won't even see people until 8-10 weeks. They won't even have you come in to confirm the pregnancy with a test...they just asked if I had taken an at home test and that was good enough for them.

My first prenatal appt was at 9 weeks. Although I did go in at 6 weeks but that was only because I was on prescription medicine...it had nothing to do with the baby....no exam, no ultrasound...only discussions about getting off my medication. So unless you need to be seen for medicine, you'll probably have your first around 8 weeks.

I think that doctors like to wait until around 8-10 weeks because it's a little easier to check on the baby. Sometimes if you go too early, they can't hear the heartbeat, the ultrasound shows what looks like an empty sack, etc...at 8-10 weeks the baby is a little further along and the heartbeat is a lot easier to hear...

Good luck!

Due to complications with my HMO, I didnt' get to see a doctor until I was 15 weeks! I was extremely paranoid during that time, of course, but read plenty of articles and books and knew to start taking OTC prenatal vitamins and eat a lot healthier (I'm a junk food addict). I've heard that some doctors won't even see you until you're about 10 weeks along. I'm 29 weeks now and my baby is perfectly fine. The only problem I experienced was that my blood tests were done a few weeks late and I have anemia so now the timeframe to get my iron up is relatively short.

I just have to tell you this but I certainly am not telling you to. Go as soon as possible. However, My mother had 12 children. Now we are talking late 30's into 1953, She never once went to a doctor. She still worked the farm and all. i ask her once why she never went to a doctor for the sake of the unborn. Know what she said? "Why, all of my kids turned out fine, so why bother, besides, I saw the doctor when I went to the hospital, That was enough" Can you believe that? She was a pistol. She lived to 95, never had a PAP, mammogram, hated the doctors. But please see the doc as soon as possible. I think my mother was an exception to the rules. Go figure!

Right away. As soon as i realized i was preggers i called the dr and he scheduled me to come in later that week. At that point i found out that i was about 5 weeks. The earlier the better- that way they can prescribe you your prenatal vitamins (although you can buy over the counter at your drug store) and give you all sorts of important information and get you off to a good start. They'll also probably start you off with a blood test to make sure you're in good health etc. Good luck and congratulations!

It depends how busy your doctor is...mine was extremely busy and I had my first appt kinda late (@ 10 weeks)....THE EARLIER YOU SEE YOUR DOCTOR THE BETTER...so you can start your prenatal vitamins right away and the doctor will also tell you how you should take care of yourself now that you are pregnant. Don't forget to have your husband/boyfriend/partner go with you on your first appt so that he too hears what the doctor says...CONGRATS =)

The first doctor I called wanted to wait 12 weeks. I wasn't about to wait that long, so I found one that would see me at 6 weeks.

I didn't go until 12 weeks. Just make sure you are already regularly taking your prenatal vitamins and taking care of yourself. in the early stages they will just give you a test to make sure you are even pregnant and do your vitals to have a baseline. good luck there is lots of visits left.
