Yes. Just look at the current spike in home foreclosures, and the big scare credit Banks just had. Capital One's stock crashed momentarily. The banks are about money, if they get spooked, they'll have no problem foreclosing or demanding their loan/credit cash be returned. Our economy is balanced by many factors however, so alot of things would probably have to happen to cause another Depression. However, even the so-called god Greenspan is predicting another Recession.
In this day and age, its clear that credit is a terrible idea for the average American...unfortunately, the average american feels they need their credit debt to "survive". Its really just a matter of "wants" vs. "needs". Most people in other countries consider their "needs", Americans are so spoiled they confuse their "wants" with what they really NEED (myself included).
I dont think we can change the system. The American brand of capitalism is so entrenched in politics, insurance, international finance/banking, pharma/health care, and the military industrial complex...not to mention immigrant (read: slave) labour...that all we can do is change our OWN habits and protect ourselves and families from the machine.

No i don't think that. While things certainly aren't perfect and we aren't without room for improvement, I would ask . . . where you you rather be? For me, I would not want to live in any other country.
America has the best job opporitunities, most freedom, opporitunities for leisure, fun. Heck, the average person lives their lives in peace, despite the fact that we are at War!
I could go on and on. I love visiting other places, but really America is about as great a situation as there is. Hard to think of places that are in better situations.
Generally speaking (cause there are always exceptions) England, Japan, Austraillia and others are pretty good, but closer to volitile governments (middle east, N. Korea).
Russia, China are pretty good but without the freedom we have. Canada is just to cold (I forgot about the climate in America - pretty much the envy of most nations to have the diversity we have).
Mexico, India, South America are ok, but still areas of great poverty. Middle East and Africa in general are the worst with constant fighting, poverty, oppression, and lack of basic necessities.

Yes, we're in a bad situation. Our public education is lacking. There is no effective universal public health care. Our government represents the top 100 richest families in the country instead of the common man and woman. And our society is rapidly heading towards a 2 class system - those who have, and those who have not.
Can we change the situation? Yes. Have we changed the situation? No. Why haven't we changed the situation? Because we're uneducated, underpaid and lack health care.

Unfortunately, given human nature I think the situation is more likely to correct itself... with a hard crash. The whole thing will probably reach critical mass if the US economy starts to tank.

confident, people are getting into mroe and extra debt and for this reason extra and extra worry. credit taking part in cards and predatory lending take income of naivete and lack of expertise. even in spite of the shown fact that i've got heard the action picture in no way lays any blame on the folk who went out and financed the plasma tvs, transformed utilising loans, and so on. so which you may keep in mind that its their very own damn fault!

It is far too easy to get credit and then more and more credit. The only way to do something about it is to pay cash. Save up and pay cash or if you use a credit card pay it off every month.
