Because many third world people still believe our streets are paved with gold ,
The attempt by the 3rd world masses to get in will continue.
Because too many people over mortgaged their homes to live the high life OR overpaid thinking that prices could miraculously continue to skyrocket up, foreclosures will be bad for several years .
Since the whole credit card debt load will be topping out , and they won't be able to shop so much . . .
Third world economies that live off products sold to Americans will also take a hit.
And when problems increase (like with the great depression in the 30s) , people will escape to fantasy for an outlet . (fantasy and revenge movies will be popular)
What needs to happen ?
Planned Parenthood needs to be funded globally . . .
(as a starter . . .)
And Americans need to find a life in addition to materialism .

Someday Americans will look away from the mirrors just long enough to accidently catch the news that the EU has colonies on Mars, India is the world's hi tech leader, China has negotiated an Israeli- Palestian Two State agreement, that Iran has cured Cancer and that no other countries will share their new wealth nor technologies with the Rogue States of America.

Our liberal elitists who promulgate America as a superficial society will soon disappear yet the values of the America we know and love will remain. Chanters of immediate demise unless socialism is embraced constantly chide us about our purchasing power and selfishness.
I say BULLY to those who can afford to be superficial, purchase luxury items at will and still have a home in America!!! If you buy Lancome Makeup or if, as a guy you make the choice of beer over milk then that's what makes America GREAT! FREEDOM OF CHOICE TO DO WHATEVER I WANT TO FREAKING DO.
As long as we have cash to blow on superficial items we are still a super-power! See the connection? Live it up everyone!

Answer: Success! While the question suggests an extremely shallow perspective, a negative, narrow, and intentionally pessimistic indictment on America...I find it appropriate to be in the politics section.
While you confuse world envy with hate or disdain...It is painfully obvious that you are under educated, have been Nowhere, Done Nothing!

The only segment of American society that is superficial are the liberal elites there followers in Hollywood and the talking heads on the networks that support them. The rest of us will be just fine

My prediction is that this superficial society that everyone likes to criticize will continue to attract millions and millions of immigrants from around the world.
Maybe if more people hated us, this problem would cease.

I love these kinda questions. I have no clue where you're from, but the Euros love to ask similar questions, yet they're enormously infatuated with our culture.

I feel that that US is slowly becoming a 3rd world country
our economy says that and we are readily becoming more , &more dependant on foriegn goods also the middle class is becoming extinct as there's more poverty and wealth
