Good luck hunni! I had the injection for 4 years and whilst i was on it, it was great. no periods and no side effects, however when i came off it i had a period every 2 weeks and had major problems concieving. It took my body about 12 months for periods to become regular again and over 4 years to concieve, I had tests and blood tests and swabs and everyting, i blame the depo injection entirely and would say to others think carefully, if your luckily enuff not to have side effects whilst on it, how soon do you want children when you come off it. I am sure it effected my fertility, however you only had one shot and that was a while back so im sure it wil happen for you soon. Just relax and try not to think "will, this be the time i concieve" the more you stress the less likely it will happen. I wish you all the luck in the world. x

Hi, I have been on the Depo injection twice. The first time I came off because my migraines got worse and I conceived my third child within 2 years; it took approximately 14 months to get my menstrual cycle to return. This was almost 15 years ago. More recently I came off the Depo injection after a little over 2 years because I didn't need it any longer (split from husband). My last injection was the beginning of 2006 and since then I have had 3 'periods' (messed up) and they are becoming more normal. I was told by a nurse at my doctor's surgery that everyone reacts differently, but the depot leaves your system rather quickly and you should be totally rid of it after 3 months. You can fall pregnant immediately and no effects will be passed to the baby. I now have 5 children conceived before and after having the depot injections. I hope this helps you.

I was on the depo shot for about three and a half years. During the depo shot I NEVER had a period, which was wonderful, but looking back at it, there is no way that was good for my body. About four months after I got off the depo shot I conceived my second child...she's nine now. I've had a third child that just turned three in December and I got my tubes tied after that. I'll be completely honest with you...my period has not been regular ever since getting off that shot and that was about ten years ago...Yikes! It's obvious that you're trying to conceive, but if and when you're not ,you may want to look into birth control pills. Oddly enough(considering my tubes are tied) my doctor has put me on Loestrin birth control pills to regulate my periods. I have to say, it's doing a pretty good job. Other than that, I hope this helps and good luck in conceiving...it'll happen!

I conceived both my daughters within 3 weeks of having the depo shot..lol..lol. It didn't work for me. I'd say you are safe to start trying. It's been a year and since they usually say take a dep shot every 3 months, it should be out of your system by now. My periods didn't regulate until I had my first baby. I'm mom to 3.

I had the injection for approx 2 years, finished my last one last one in May (meaning it ran out in August). The first period I had after that was on the 1st March so it took 7 months. I have always had period pain but this was far worse than normal, it was also a lot heavier although it only lasted 2 days whereas before they usually lasted 5-7days. I think it takes time for you body to adjust, my nurse told me it can take up to 2 years for it to come out of your system! I hope shes wrong cause I'm trying to get preggers! If you have any doubts see your doctor.

big fat BOOOOOOOO to the depo shot.
i got it when i was 16 and it MESSED me up big time. soo bad that i had to wait for the time to be up and go on the pill to regulate my cycle which still took a few months.
I swore it was birthcontrol cause i was on my period more than i was off. i had gotten it with a friend and she got it once and didnt have her period for 3 years after! im not kidding you either. really freaked her out too!
she went to the doctor and they didnt know what to do. luckily she started back up but her cycle is soooo screwed up its not even funny and she has been on the pill to regulate it for quite some time...
talk to your doc and dont go back in for another shot!

i was on that for about 9 months, for the first 6 months i didn't get a period and for the last three months i has a period constantly, after you come of the injection, you periods should go back to normal straight away, they did with me, your doctor would advise you to weight at least 1 proper period before trying to get pregnant.
