We were dirt poor growning up, but I had no idea. You should become a parent when you are able to love and nurture a child.

In an ideal world, yes. But things don't always happen how you plan them to. Really, when you have a child even if you think you aren't ready or that you can't afford it you just somehow make it work and all is well. I have a 6 year old and I had him when I was barely 20. I didn't know how I was going to make it, but I've somehow been able to. My boyfriend mentioned the other day that he wants to wait til his college is paid off before we have kids. Then he mentioned that he wasn't going to be done paying for that til 2015! HA HA HA! We are not waiting that long! I'm not getting any younger.

If people waited until they were financially ready, there would be no children ever born. Who is ever financially set?? Even people that win the lottery aren't "set". They go on shopping sprees or hand out the money or have so much to pay out that they have to wait til the next check comes to have money again.

If you wait until you are financially ready, you'll be too old... besides, you never know what will happen - my hubby got laid off when we got pregnant with our first, my sis thought I should have aborted, but everything works out in the long run.

I am wondering the same thing right now. I'm ready, but we are building a new home and the money is going to be tight. But, each day I'm like I want to do this now. It's hard to say.

i think people should go to school and have their career before having kids. it is very expensive to raise kids. childcare is expensive. im a single mother with no education and live on 24,000 a year. its hard and depressing. i wish i could afford a better car and a better place to live.
