So it's either trust the ultrasound or trust the old wives' tale? Go with the ultrasound!

As for buying clothes, if you're still unsure about the baby's gender, you can start buying neutral colored clothing. Onsies, sleepers, and the like can easily be found that will suit both boys and girls. If you want to start buying girl's clothes, you could try getting a gift receipt when you buy them. It may depend on the store you're going to, but I believe that gift receipts have a longer return window than regular receipts.

Good luck!

Don't listen to your father-in-law (I don't mean ever, I just mean in this case!!) - it's an old wive's tale!!!

I'm 32 weeks now, and I am very definitely having a girl, they told me at my 20 weeks scan, and I have had scans every 2 weeks after that because of a high risk pregnancy, each one confirming that my baby is female!

I am carrying very low, and I have from the start! When I had my boy, 5 years ago, I carried high, and my stomach was quite pointy, which is supposedly a sign of a girl!!

Yes, they can be wrong, but nowadays, doctors tend to only tell you the sex of your baby if they are very sure! There have been too many court cases over it to take risks! There is always a very small possibility they are wrong, but I'd trust them and go ahead and get some frilly pink clothes!!

Congrats!! :-)

If this is your first ultrasound wait for the next one and see if they still say its a girl and you can ask how positive are they that its a girl (can they see clearly from the ultrasound?). DO NOT BELIEVE your father in law telling you that you are carrying too low to be a girl...YOU CAN NEVER TELL BY LOOKING AT THE SHAPE OF A PREGNANT WOMAN'S BELLY WHAT THEY ARE CARRYING!!! (such an old wives tale).

Anyway...I will also wait about buying baby clothes...most likely you will have a baby shower and believe me...YOU'LL RECEIVE TONS OF CLOTHES THEN =) I had my baby shower when I was about 30 weeks pregnant. I had it early because I wanted to have the chance to fix all the gifts - see what else you need, exchange things you got in twos, things like that. Also you wouldn't be so big and uncomfortable to the point that you can't even enjoy your own baby shower.

Try doing one of those 3d/4d ultrasounds...they usually can get a real good picture of the baby's sex.

I have to say that if there was a chance of the ultrasound being wrong, the technician would say so. That would be based upon how the baby is positioned in the womb. I'm 38 weeks pregnant with a little boy and I tell you this, he has rode this out high and low. Don't believe all the hoopla that people fill your minds with. Sounds to me like he just really hoped for a little boy. Just let him wrap those arms around a sweet little girl and his heart will melt no matter what! Congratulations on your bundle of joy!

You can't tell the sex by how you carry the baby. In fact, the only 100% foolproof method is to check between the legs when the bayb is born.

Ultrasounds are pretty accurate, but they do occasionally make mistakes. It's more common for a boy to be mistaken for a girl than the other way around. Even so, if the tech got a clear view, you can safely go with it. Go ahead and buy some outfits if you want, and congratulations!

How far along are you?

Did you see the girl parts and ask the sonographer to show you?

Dont beleive the hype or wives tales about belly being high or low. Especially coming from a MAN. ;)

Not all ultrasounds are 100% and errors are made. But if you are 19+ weeks and got a good picture then Id go with the ultrasound.
Also, there are places that will give you ultrasounds for gender determination and even 4-d so look into that.

that's an old wives tell about if you Carry your stomach too low then its a boys but if it high its a girl. The ultra sound is much more accurate then that. So go out and start buying everything you need for your new baby girl.

Have fun.

I would trust the ultrasound over your stomach being low. Ultrasounds are pretty accurate these days, but like everything they aren't foolproof. I would say you are having a girl if that is what it said. Congratulations.

http://www.ob-ultrasound.net/genderfaq.html This site said at 20 weeks an ultrasound is 95-100% accurate.

the ultrasound is usually pretty accurate, but not foolproof. dont trust how you are carrying to be an indicator of the sex of your child. I was told that I was having a boy by how i was carrying with two of my children, and i have 3 girls. Go ahead and buy clothes if you want to, you can always exchange them if a later ultrasound shows that you are having a boy. Good luck and congratulations.

First that is an old wives tale and there has been many instances where it was true and others where it didn't work out that way. Either way...ultrasounds are NOT 100% accurate. Did you see for sure there was nothing there? "Its" penis could have been tucked or hiding or just really small. So unless you got a very clear picture i would go out and buy to much pink.
