Here's the USGS weekly volcano update for erupting volcanoes worldwide. They update it every Thursday, so today's update is the activity from last week.

There are several volcanoes that are currently erupting right now. For example, Tungurahua in Ecuador or Kilauea in Hawaii. There are dozens of active volcanoes on the Earth (there are also several in other parts of the solar system) and many have been continuously erupting for several years. It really just depends on what type of eruption you are seeking information on. There are 16 volcanoes that are called “Decade Volcanoes” and they are sorta considered the “big ones” to watch. They are classified this way mostly because of recent activity and their close proximity to highly populated areas. They have the potential to do the most damage.

However, if you are looking for a large, exploding, Mt St Helen’s type eruption with considerable damage; the eruption in Ecuador last August might be the most recent. Although it was no Mt. St. Helens, it did destroy 7 small villages and kill a few people.

Batu Tara in Indonesia is currently erupting as is Tuvurvur near Rabaul in Papua New Guinea. They are not doing anything particularly violent but they are producing steam and ash.
