Sure, we killed off the evil dictator, but that evil dictator did not have 50-500 people killed on a daily basis by bombs! (People were too frightened of him to do something like that!) Now we have left these people with no real strong-arm to control them and their civil war is taking a toll on OUR troops as well. Way to go, Big Bush----NOT!

Oh yeah, and we leave them with "democracy" to take the place of that dictatorship--"Democracy", which we can hardly handle after over 200 years.....now, that was a real well-intnetioned "gift" for Iraq, wasn't it?

I'm not saying that Saddam wasn't scum! He was! But the people of a country must want "democracy", must understand "democracy", if it to work! I think the Iraqis would have been happy with a "benevolent dictator" if they could have found one.
I heard an old Iraqi man say this, "Under Saddam, this was hell on earth! Now...it is worse!" What does that tell you??

I don't think anyone has any doubt that Saddam was not a good person. No, he had no business ruling a country. If you take a strong conservative view, I could almost see how America is "justified" in his removal, much like a playground monitor sending the bully that wont let anyone else on the swings into timeout.
America has nearly perfected covert ops since the World Wars. It would have been no trouble to go in, take Saddam and his sons, and get out without being seen. Instead, we tried to "spread democracy", which is impossible.
Democracy, as I see it, is rule by the people, chosen by the people. If a population is unwilling to accept the responsibility of self-rule, it is inevitable that a new leader will be chosen, regardless of how much propoganda we spew out. I love democracy, but for it to take root, it must first be embraced.

You are right Saddam did not have 50 people killed on a daily basis by bombs. He had thousands of Kurds gassed. He caused the death of thousands of Iranians, during the Iran Iraq war. He invaded Kuwait and he killed anyone who dared to speak out against him.
I think there is absolutely no way you can say the Iraqis were better under Saddam. At least they now have the same right you have to disagree with the government.

Bullsh*t, joey!
People were murdered by the government DAILY and in DROVES! You never heard about it because it never came out. I can take you to the lion's cages where women were fed to the lions after Uday and Qusay finished having sex with them. I can take you to the rape houses on the palace complexes. You need to talk to the people how had family members disappear and never returned only to show up in mass graves 10 years later.
All that was going on while the UN protected Saddam and his Oil for Food Scandal. If you haven't been here and talked to the people, both Sunni and Shia, you have no idea what went on.
What you see today is the reaping of what Saddam sowed.
EDIT:
I will give you this. My terp (interpreter) said it best, "We gave the government over to Iraq too soon. It was like giving a monkey a Mercedes and telling him to drive home."
I couldn't have said it better, myself.

It hasn't. All we've done for Iraq is to make them totally dependent upon us financially and militarily. The best thing we COULD do for them is make them stand on their own two feet, but for some reason, Bush seems disinclined to do that, preferring instead to hang onto this unwinnable war and shove an unsustainable democracy into their hands.

You sound as if we should just dismiss the fact we killed an evil dictator, and his two evil barbaric sons. He gassed thousands of Kurds to death. We're uncovering mass graves. If you are indeed a woman, you would have been killed for saying what you just said!
