When I was little i saw a show on TV about some college that allows you to bring your pets. Does anyone know of any of these? I think it was in Michigan or something...but it was many many years ago so now that hotels, resteraunts, etc are becoming more open to pets there should be a lot more colleges/universities that allow pets, right??? Please let me know if you know of any!

To make a long story short, I have no family and i grew up in an "orphanage". I have a little dog about 15-18 lbs who is my best friend in the world. So i have no where to leave him, but hes very very mellow and lazy so i think he'd be okay with the college life. (i work full time now and hes fine)

As a college student, it could be difficult to throw yourself into the college experience and still give your pet the quality time it deserves and the consistent attention it needs.

If your pet would be better off staying with Mom and Dad in a familiar environment, but you'd miss your pet, think about volunteering at a local animal shelter when you go to college. There is always a need for considerate volunteer help and you could be doing a good thing as a break from college work. Just don't fall in love with another pet and complicate things!

I found two colleges that currently accept pets:

Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida

Dogs are allowed in the "Pet Dorms" but must meet the following requirements:
Dogs need to be less than 40 pounds, have proof of vaccinations, must be friendly and
Students must have owned the dog for at least 1 year.

Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.
