Yes. Coffee, pastries, matches, napkins, gloves, aspirin, cheap bags of oranges, dog food for their pet, bottled waters and loaves of bread.
Breaking a loaf of bread with a person in need is like praying x 100.
It is important to always look a homeless person in the eye. Even if you decide to say No, at least recognize their existence.
The issues now being exposed to the treatment of war veterans are just a drop in the bucket. Many of the homeless people I encounter in SF are war veterans outed from VA hospitals.
Some were put on the street from the closure of state mental hospitals. Other homeless I have talked to were dropped from assisted living programs for veterans and ended up going broke.

Yes. I have many times. I go to down town (and the slum area too) to do some of my exams, and I often come across homeless people. I give them money and/or food to eat.

On Christmas, I used to buy a 40 oz beer for each of the three guys who hung out by my business. I would take a swig of their vodka or whatever they had, and we would talk. They were cool guys. One of them is dead and one hasn't had a drink in 10 years. The third guy went back to Michigan. I'm in CA.
