Ok, so I already have the basic structure of the site built. It's about 16 pages but that number could increase or decrease when I finish. I am waiting on them to get me info to put on the site for their company. It's not going to be fancy with flash or anything. It's just meant to be simple, clean and user friendly.

I don't know if I should charge them per page or just one flat cost for the whole site or what. I don't even know what a fair price would be in the first place! If they like it they want to keep me to keep the site updated and maybe build more sites for them (the owner has a few companies).

Any help or info is greatly appreciated!

The best way to find out is to see what other freelance designers in your area charge. Usually they'll say this on their website, or contact them and approach them as if you're shopping around as a client and see what they say.

Really depends where you're at. I would say around $25 an hour would be reasonable depending on how long it takes you to build the site. I know this, somebody getting a 16 page website wouldn't be paying less than $1000 in most cases.

Hope this helps.

In addition to the first answer, for future reference, never *ever* start working on a freelance project until a price is agreed to and a contract is signed. I cannot tell you how many designers I know who, starting out, would get 2/3s done with a site and then reveal a price, at which point the buyer (usually a local businessperson ignorant of the Internet and true web development costs) will balk and walk, leaving the designer with a pile of work finished and nothing to show for it.

I recommend this book: Business and Legal Forms for Graphic Designers (http://www.amazon.com/Business-Legal-Forms-Graphic-Designers/dp/1581152744/ref=pd_bbs_3/105-0984288-7766013?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173979628&sr=8-3 ) it has professional and legally sound service contracts, payment agreements, etc. and it comes with a CD with all of the forms in PDF format for $20. Not bad.

Just ask yourself, "How much is my time?" "How much is my design" "Am I there for the customer, or money?". The figures of how much to charge will see the light.
