they feel lighter somehow... did they lose material or is it just a feeling?

Look in your dryer's lint trap and you will find a partial reason. The clothes do lose some material in the washing and drying process. The material is also treated with chemicals as part of the processing. When you wash and dry your clothes, the chemicals wear away and the material becomes softer.

It's just a feeling. You've washed them, the material isn't as stiff, and some clothes always feel like they're "made for you."

Well once you wear something a few times it starts to loosen up to fit your body movements.. thats why you should wash your clothes after you wear it once or twice.. so that it would go back into its own shape. cotton like clothes you have to be careful when drying because it can shrink

I think it's because of the several washings and 'just the feeling'
