why is war good? Well, I don't know that it's appropriate to ask the question in exactly that way....
However, I suppose there is an answer of a sort. Just remember that you asked why war is good, not why it's bad or undesireable. The question presupposes that there might be some good things about it, so ok, I've tried to think of a few ways in which it arguably might be.
Could war be perceived as beneficial? Well, is competition and predation in nature at all beneficial?
At present we humans have some 7.5 billion human beings on the planet and no natural predators bigger than a microbe. We fight over space and resources ultimately, and compete for survival just like every other creature, the only difference being that hardly any other creature on the planet can compete with us apart from our fellow human beings.
In a less depressing vein, war often puts the spurs to a sluggish economy. It is often said that it was really WWII that pulled us out of the great depression.
Too, war is often the impetus for great technological and scientific advancement. The atomic bomb project and the deeper understanding of atomic and subatomic interactions that it gave us led to numerous medical advancements and eventually brought us to a greater cosmological understanding of how the universe works. The potential of atomic energy has yet to be fully realized.

War is never good. War is the way we solve problems when we are too immature to solve them in a diplomatic way. Or sometimes it is a necessary evil if you can't defeat the bad guys in any other way. War is so destructive that you can never say that it is a good thing. All you can say is that some problems have been solved by war, when unfortunately those problems could not be solved by other means.
But if you want to make an argument for the side benefits of war (not that they necessarily outweigh the costs of war), you could talk about the economic stimulus that war can create for the economy. The classic example is how World War II pulled the US out of the depression. But the war economy is also going on right now. The US economy is only doing as well as it is right now because the the huge deficit spending caused by war. And of course if you are a defense contractor, war is good for your business. You could also make the argument that war may be one of the ways that humans have of controlling the population so that we do not exhaust the available resources of our environment. This argument was made by Malthus a long time ago, and it seems more relevant than ever now. And you could also argue that war has benefits for fulfilling certain human needs for competition, strength, and a sense of purpose.

For anyone to argue that War is good they have never served in any Military. The nice folks at Dupont Co, a U.S. company, has benefited by manufacturing a nasty weapon known as Napalm; simply Gasoline thickend with an agent; this weapon is dropped from aircraft in pods called "drop tanks"; upon hitting the ground it vaporizes into a gasoline cloud of mist then ignites into a roaring fireball covering about 200 yards long by 75 yards wide; anything in that area is burned up. Nice weapon. Dupont made zillions, yes, they profit from War if this helps you paper. Any weapons manufacterer will do "good" if there is war.
War is obsolete as it has shown to never solve issues for any length of time.

War is never good, because it involves the loss of irreplaceable human lives. However, it is often the lesser of two evils.

Only satanistic republicans would agree that war is a good thing. They obviously have no care for human suffering, and dont think laws apply to them. Their actions only fuel the hatred more. Like satan ,they use deception to distract people from the truth.
