who would win in a war between Morgoth and Sauron?

Morgoth was the first dark lord for the silmarillin but then you have sauron from the lord of the rings.Who had the real power here.

Sauron was Melkor's (Morgoth) servant during the first age. Melkor was a Vala, Sauron was only a Maia. The power levels between the two are vastly different. Sauron would not have had a chance had he tried to challenge Morgoth, which he never did.
