I was in your boat when I was your age (I'm 42). No doctor would do any surgery to prevent pregnancy because I had (have) no children. I got on the depo a decade ago and love it...it's effective birth control and my period's stopped immediately (they were 7 - 10 days of very heavy flow normally, unless I was on the pill).
I do not know of any other options to stop your periods, but typically birth control pills will short the duration and lessen the flow, and there's a pill out now that allows you only 4 periods a year.
My vote is depo, but it's a personal choice and side effects vary, so one must decide if they are worth it. I've had no negative side effects on it except perhaps it being more difficult for me to lose weight (but I can do it and have been at the smallest size of my adult life while on the shot).

Well, the depo provera shot will stop your periods for quite a few months. And while we would just about ALL like to be rid of our periods, they do serve a purpose. I don't think I would feel comfortable with the shot, because I wouldn't know when "Aunt Flow" would show up.
Have you tried going on a low dose birth control pill to help regulate & reduce the periods....?
Good luck.

The depo provera shot could be really good for you. I'm on it and I don't get periods.
I've heard of some people too who just go on the pill and don't use that one week of placebo pills, they just start a new pack right away so that they don't get a period. It would be better to check with your doctor first though.

depo is a good option, mirena (a hormonal IUD) has a similar effect. most women completely stophaving periods within a few months of having it inserted and it is a VERY effective mode of birth control. It is also effective for up to 5 years so it requires fewer trips to the doc than depo. good luck!

The depo shot may be good for you, but i was on it for four years and had horrible mood swings, weight gain, and spotting (and you need a bone density check after five years of being on it due to what it does to your bone health).

if you go on birth control pills and skip the week of pills for your period, you won't have one. just take the 3 weeks at the top of the pill pack and toss the last week. I read about a nurse that hasn't had her period in years by doing this.

Any doctor worth his salt will refuse to do that to you at your age, and I doubt any insurance will cover it unless you have level 6 cervical cancer - there are treatments available, use them.
There is NO way you can say you know for fact you never will want kids, you cannot tell the future, and too many doctors have been sued for that.
