any suggestions on what would make for a good experiment- besides doing a survey method? I'm trying to model if after the Marcus and MacKuen, "Anxiety, Enthusiasm, and the Vote" but with a new twist... I plan to show some campaign ads and then seeing what people’s reactions are to them? I just don't know how to create questions that provoke excitement or anxiety !

There is this famous 'stress test' where somebody is asked to give a test subject electrical shocks when a question is answered wrong. That person is encouraged to continue reading the questions even when the other person is screaming in pain ...and even stops giving sound at all when the shocks have gotten ...too much. It may be clear the one giving the shocks is tested...not the one 'getting' the shocks.
(look it up it is amazing)

The way you plan to do it, you have no controll over the 'peerpressure' ie the source of the involvement.

Make 2 environments where 'some testing' on a person by your test subject can be done. Make your testsubject ask the questions to an unseen respondent about the campaign ads.

The mere awareness of what they are asking questions about should bring either enthousiasme or Anxiety to the table.

I'll leave you to work out the details.
