Here's what you should do and it's good you don't trust anything that is free. I'll explain what you need to do.
1st, don't waste your time with AVG, spybot, ad aware, CA, spyhunter, or anything of the sort. Stay away from anything that is FREE when it comes to spyware and antivirus. There is a reason why they free. They are NOT good.
2nd, You need some of the best software out there. Norton Systemworks is very good. That's the only good software from Norton. I wouldn't recommend Norton Internet security, its not that great. Now the best software you should get is Spysweeper with Anti-virus, this software is too good and gets better everyday. It blocks over 170,600 threats. No other software can compete with that or come close for that matter. It catches everything. I've used them all and it is 2nd to none.
3rd, after you install and update the software, since its in your system you will have to turn off system restore and then go into safe mode and run the scan and eliminate the virus. then after removal, reboot and turn system restore back on.
4th, (Optional) I recommend a Firewall from Zone Alarm, their free version is so good. Or you can buy their Pro version, but the free version will do more than the job.
5th, any probs during or after you do all this, send me an e-mail.

superantispyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWARE
these are 2 of the best
they do have free versions of these 2 programs also ...they are also very good and highly recommended
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
it is suggested that u remove any virus programs u currently have before u install a new 1
u must have
1 antivirus
1 firewall
2 spyware/maleware/adware programs
here is the best free firewall
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
but if u use kaspersky internet security..u do not need comodo
if u download the free version of kaspersky antivirus
it does not come with firewall
then u should install comodo
oh yeah
dont listen to the post about norton and webroot spysweeper
they both SUCK
]they are what is called BLOATWARE
they will make ur pc superslow
they hog up all kinds of processes
norton is terrible....norton ghost WAS the only thing good they had...Acronis is here now
webroot spysweeper is very hard on pc now
it used to be top notch
now it is garbage
yes...it will scan..find and remove pretty much ALL THREATS...but it will make ur pc slow for everyday use
dont take my word......go to google
ask google about norton...spysweeper...or go to the spyware/virus forums...see what the EXPERTS offer
not one of them will RECOMMEND norton or webroot

what I do . . . Back important files up on a flash drive and do a system restore. then your computer comes out good as new. Then just avoid going to sites or opening mail that puts spyware on your computer. Also once you start out clean, get a good virus protection. Agree with post above . . . symantec is best

First, you can use housecall from Trend Micro. It's a free online antivirus tool from a good company. You can also buy the full version if you want.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
You can also use Adaware from Lavasoft to remove adware and spyware from your machine. Personal SE version is free but it has to be run manually. The plus and professional version will run on the background protecting you PC all the time but you have to purchase those versions.

Good Luck!

greater useful hear to Lex, equipment fix has on no account been for virus removal, and is frequently contaminated whilst a working laptop or computing device gets attacked. you purely use equipment fix in a virulent disease removal once you have deleted something by using twist of fate , yet this would be using an contaminated fix factor, yet a working contaminated fix factor is greater useful then no fix factor and having to reinstall the os!

www.symantec.com. Depending on who your internet service provider is they may supply one for free.
If you have a virus, Symantec has a service that costs $70/ but they will stay on the phone with you and walk you through the steps to get rid of it. I had to use it once, I was on the phone with the dude for hours figuring it out. I know computers pretty good too.
