I have had my cats for 10 years and although I wish they can live forever, I know in my heart that cats generally live from 15-20 years. They are both very healthy but my doctor has said to me "they are not young anymore." How did any of you deal with the death of your pet(s)?

Sorry, my vet (THEIR doctor), not my doctor.

I kno letting go of a pet can be hard. I had a hamster once(hehe) she died a year after i got her :(......everyone in my family got over the death quite quickly but i didn't. I missed her soo soo much...after i did get over the death i relized the best way to get over the death of a pet is to talk to ur family. Spend more time with them....don't just always huddle in the corner crying....after they die u always regret taht u didn't spend much time with them. I kno it sounds silly and all but if u really love them tell them that u luv them every night before bed...so when they do die they die knowing u love them:)...spend lots of time with when it is coming close to their death age..............enjoy the happy and special moments with ur pet :)

We have a burial somewhere nice by a tree and then decide on a replacement pet. The departed one is not forgotten and we remember special times and special events and perhaps use the initial from the name of the one that has gone. At times our new pet has been rescued from an animal holding cell but on some occasions when the pain has been really bad we choose a pedigree as sometimes the animal needs to be really different.

The way I deal with it is getting more pets. I actually prefer short-lived pets (e.g., mice), so I can have more of them. It makes me happy to give some of these little guys a good home, even if only for a very short life-time. When your pets pass away, go to the local animal shelter and give another lost soul a new chance at good life.

Make the most of the time you have with them, make memories and yes they don't live forever and sometimes cats do live way beyond 10... sometimes when people allow them to live to nearly 20 and they SHOULD be put down, whatever the case do not make your poor pets suffer, do whats best for them, if you truly love them.
lol okay so not your doctor well thats good, he is probaly stating the obvious so you never know i mean they could live up to 18 years. who knows, just make the most of it!

They may seem healthy, but animals trick things by pretending they are when they really arent. That way out in the wild they arent made targets for dinner... Do what is best for the animal. If putting it down is the solution, just think of how you are making it better for them because you are preventing the animal from suffering. Think of the good times and well treat it like you would if it was a person. Everyone has their own way of getting over the loss of something that was close to them. Just remember the memories and look back and smile.... my sympathy......

I know how you feel because i also felt bad when I found out my dogs were to old to live and I felt horrible, so take all the time you can with them, but when your cats do die remember all your good times, and you have got to know they really never die because they will always be in your heart and when you need consolation, all you have to do is remember they are right there beside you.

Grief is grief no matter person or animal... You must deal with it and come through it... Be thankful that God has blessed you with them for so many years. Keep their pictures so you can see them everyday... cry, scream, laugh and one day you'll find yourself able to laugh about your cats and their antics more than you find yourself crying about the loss...
