I came out of the station and this guy had a strange look on his face while he was looking at this middle aged couple (black male and white female) behind me. He never said anything, he just stared. I wasn't getting good vibes, could it be racism or am I just being silly?

I meant white male, black female. But what difference does it make.

You know for it being 2007 I don't get why folks are still making an issue about white men and black women or black men and white women dating or another ethnicity dating? I think it's totally pointless and anyone who makes a fuss out of it is the one with a problem. Some people still believe that blacks and whites shouldnt date each other. At what point will folks who have this problem accept the fact that interracial dating, marriage, and friendships are out here and will continue to grow in large numbers. IR dating and marriage is in fact on the rise between black men/white women or white men/black women and other ethnicities.

You're not being silly I think the guy who was staring at this couple knows that he didnt like what he saw, but it's not his buisness and he needs to keep moving because they're not the only IR couple he'll see they're everywhere and wherever he goes they're going to be around so he needs to just get over it and get used to the fact that IR is here to stay and there's not a damn thing he can do about it.

you have no way of knowing. And as long as he didn't do anything to offend or hurt the couple, then assumptions could do more harm than good when confessed.

Perhaps this fellow was a pervert. Or he might recognize them. Or maybe he's a loony. Or he could be racist, but what can you do about it? It's good that you're looking out for others, but for now just let this one go.

I'd say there's no way of knowing.

Could be anything -- he knows or has seen them before, didn't like their clothes, a lot of things.

A few years ago I read on Gallup's website that, in the late 50's over 80% of Americans disapproved of multi-racial marriage. In the (I forget which) 90's or early aughts, it was down to around 30%.

WHAT A CHANGE, eh?

Nice that there's some good news, now and then.

Silly. You don't know anything about the guy. He could be a cop and one of the people looked like a perp. He could have had bad sausage and has indigestion, had a fight with his wife. Making something out of nothing is how you get into trouble.

in my experience, when you have a funny feeling in a situation like that, it usually is racism. of course there is no way to confirm that but I tend to go with the gut feeling on stuff like that. Doesnt mean I would have a problem with the person, just that I would be wary and mindful of what I thought I saw.

I think that it could have been racism; however, I don't think you have enough evidence to conclude that it was. Interracial relationships are becoming more accepted in our culture, but there are still a lot of people out there who simply do not accept them.

Trying to read people's minds will cause you a lot of unnecessary stress in life. these are questions that can haunt you but never get answered. i suggest you make "smart and necessary eye contact" in the future, especially when he was looking at someone else and not you.

No. It is not racism to look at someone who is not the same color or race as you are. He probably thought the girl was hot.

You should have asked the guy himself, perhaps he would have told you. (?) Don't stress yourself too much mate...
